2023 Women in Innovation Awards: Movers & Makers

When women innovate, we can create better futures for all. It’s time to recognize the accomplishments, achievements, and innovations women are leading and the difference they make in the world.

Application Overview
Applications should be submitted through our Jotform application, where you can save your progress as you go. Each submission will go through (2) rounds of judging and will be judged based on funding, revenue, inventiveness, and results. Winners will be announced at the Gala in Fall 2023, and startups will have the opportunity to participate in a Demo Day on the same day as the gala.

Awards & Eligibility Requirements

The Innovators

The Innovators recognizes individuals spearheading, building, launching, or enabling the creation of products, services, and experiences that are inventive and commercially successful. This year, we have three sub-categories: Leaders, Rising Stars, and Movers & Makers of the Year

  • Nominees must have a track record of leading transformative initiatives, challenging the status quo, and promoting a culture of creativity and risk-taking. They must have a reputation for inspiring and empowering their team to achieve ambitious goals and serve as a role model for future generations.

    Applicant Requirements:

    • C-level executive, accomplished VP, or equivalent executive leadership role within your organization

    • Demonstrated a significant contribution to their industry or sector

    • Whose work has the potential to impact the wider community

    Application Overview:

    Applications should be submitted through our Jotform application, where you can save your progress as you go. Each submission will go through (2) rounds of judging and the evaluation will be based on the applicant's ability to create an impact through innovative solutions and how these solutions have provided a unique value proposition for all stakeholders involved. There will be multiple finalists per category. Winners will be announced at a Gala in October 2023.

    On the application, we’ll ask for general information, including:

    • Nominee’s role in enabling innovation: How did the nominee create an innovative product, service, or experience?

    • Impact achieved by nominee: the key results, metrics and growth demonstrated by the nominee as an innovator

    What to expect on the application:

    • A 150-word description of the product, service or experience that the nominee has spearheaded, built, launched or enabled in the last year. Include how it qualifies as an innovation (WIN defines innovation as a product, service, or experience that is inventive and commercially successful)


    • A 150-word description of why the nominee deserves to be recognized as a Leader


    • Documentation of the nominee’s innovation(s) which can include a website, a case study, press clippings, a video, etc. in the form of a PDF and/or URLs.

  • Rising stars lead the charge on bringing innovative practices and approaches to solving challenges and identifying new opportunities. They are relentless in their quest to improve the products, services, and experiences they work on. They demonstrate a trajectory that makes them a woman to watch.

    Application Requirements:

    • Below C-level, senior level

    • Demonstrated impact once - execution/chartered a new initiative that is not a C-level

  • It's time to recognize and celebrate the innovative women who take it upon themselves to challenge the status-quo. This award is for women who have created innovative solutions to address societal challenges and have the potential to create lasting impact in their industry or sector. The award provides recognition and support to help them grow and scale their work. This list honors the top 10 women innovators who are moving their industry forward and making groundbreaking new products, services, experiences, and businesses.

The Innovations

The Innovations recognize products, services, or experiences that are inventive and commercially successful and startups, with a female founding team, who are pushing the boundaries of their industries.

  • A new product, service, or experience that is inventive, disruptive of the industry, and pushes the boundaries of the industry.

    This year, we are accepting innovations across the following industries:

    • Realestate & Proptech

    • Healthcare & Biotech

    • Finance & Fintech

    • Emerging Tech (AI/Meta/Web3)

    • Sustainability & Climate Tech

    • Reproductive health & Femtech

    • Social Innovation

    • Retail & Commerce

    Requirements:

    • Team responsible for the innovation includes at least one woman practitioner or a woman leading the initiative

    • Nominees must have created a product or service that has transformed their industry or disrupted conventional thinking.

    What to expect on the application:

    General information:

    • Innovation name & date launched

    • Names and titles of those who should be credited for the creation of the innovation

    • The diversity involved in spearheading, building, launching or enabling the innovation

    • A brief description of the innovation:

    • What it does

    • The problem it solves

    • Who it is for

    • How it is used/accessed

    • How it is sold

    100 characters per section.

    Funding:

    • Funding sources

    • Estimated costs to create the innovation

    Revenue:

    • A 50-word description of the core business model behind the innovation

    • A 100-word description of the innovation’s revenue success since entering the market

    • The estimated revenue the innovation has generated since launch

    Inventiveness:

    • A 100-word description of how this product, service or experience is a new innovation (WIN defines innovation as a product, service, or experience that is inventive and commercially successful).

    Results:

    • A 150-word description of key metrics and facts for our judges to consider

    Submission materials:

    Documentation of the innovation(s) which can include a website, a case study, press clippings, a video, etc. in the form of a PDF and/or URLs.

  • A new company that is inventive, disruptive of the industry, and pushes the boundaries of the industry.

    Finalists for the startup category will have the special opportunity to present to esteemed judges at the Demo Day, with the winner selected live at the WIN Awards Gala this fall.

    Requirements:

    • Nominees must be early-stage startups that have raised less than $5 million USD in funding and have been in business for less than 5 years.

    • They must have a product or service that is disrupting their industry and driving innovation forward.

    • They must also have a woman on the founding team

 FAQ

  • We’re looking for women working in the field of innovation who are defining and designing better futures for us all.

    Our awards are for leaders, rising stars, and any women taking big strides in innovation as well as the general innovations or startups that are inventive, disruptive of the industry, and pushes the boundaries of the industry.

    For our 2023 Program, we have multiple awards across our two categories, Innovators and Innovations. You can view the Innovators application here and the Innovations application here.

  • If you’re nominating an innovator, you’ll complete the Innovators application. If you’re nominating an innovation, you’ll complete the Innovations application. Both applications are displayed in a card-by-card format, so we advise you to review the Awards & Eligibility requirements and prepare a document of responses accordingly before beginning your application. Once you are ready to begin the application, it should not take more than 5-10 minutes to complete.

  • Applicants will fill in the necessary information for the award category they'd like to apply for by the dates outlined below.

    Applicants will then be asked a series of questions and can review their application (as well as save it) at the end.

    Applicants will then be sent to our payment platform (powered by Stripe) to process the payment. The application is not submitted until payment is processed. The applicants will then receive an email confirmation and will be added to our awards update emails to be notified when finalists will come out!

    Some key dates to note below:

    Early Bird Applications open on May 8th, 2023.

    General Applications open on May 24th, 2023.

    All applications must be submitted by the deadline of July 15th, 2023.

    Our panel of judges will review every application, with the Shortlist announced in August/September 2023.

    Our Shortlisted applicants will be able to join us for our Awards Gala, where the winners of each award will be revealed. Awards Gala will be in Fall 2023 with final date and place to be determined.

  • New Categories

    We will continue to have similar categories each year with slight refinements. This year, we’ve introduced a new ‘Movers & Makers of the Year’ category, which will be a list of the top 10 Movers and Makers of the Year.

    We’ve also introduced industries underneath ‘General Innovations,’ and introduced a new ‘Startup’ category.

    Demo Day

    Startups who apply for the startups category will have the option to participate in a Demo Day on the day of the gala. More information will be updated here as it is available.

  • The Demo Day will be an in-person demo day that will feature presentations from 6 finalists. The presentations will be 15 minute sessions for presenting and Q&A.

    Participants are notified at least 4 weeks in advance and are provided with either travel sponsorship or a hybrid option. VIP hour tickets are provided to winners, and demo day participants are also given access to the general admission portion of the event.

    Demo day winners will be announced at the WIN Gala along with WIN Awards announcement. Demo day winners receive exposure across the WIN ecosystem: Podcast interview, Newsletter Features and Non-equity funding awards of $5,000-$10,000.

  • Absolutely! We accept applications completed on behalf of nominees.

  • RECOGNITION: be acknowledged alongside other winners by colleagues, peers and future employers. Join the WIN community at our prestigious awards gala to celebrate your success.

    OPPORTUNITY: Be featured on our leading WIN / WIN podcast and highlight how you have carved out your career in a historically male-dominated innovation space.

    PLATFORM: Tell your story to the world; highlight the success of your team, or yourself with our custom assets.

    VISIBILITY: have your product or individual experience be acknowledged and recognized by a cadre of notable experts spanning corporate executives, entrepreneurs, and creatives.

    COMMUNITY: Become part of a strong network of connected and diverse women and champions that you can lean on for support to amplify your impact and access across the industry.

    Our Shortlisted applicants will also be able to join us for our virtual Awards Gala, where the winners of each award will be revealed. Awards Gala date TBD.

  • Our selection of notable experts spanning corporate executives, entrepreneurs, and creatives will meticulously review each application and consider a variety of factors, including: funding, revenue, inventiveness, and results.

    Finalist shortlists are shared with category specific subject matter experts, who select the winners in their assigned categories. Regardless of final status, all finalists will receive an event invitation and details to join the WIN community at our prestigious Awards Gala and celebrate with us. Details to follow.

  • Our Shortlist will be announced in August-September 2023. The Innovators Award winners will be announced at our prestigious Awards Gala virtually and in person. Sign up for our newsletter here to receive all the juicy details!

  • Absolutely! Once you start an application, you will have the opportunity to save your responses on the form and return to complete later using a unique link. Once you’ve paid you will not be able to edit your application.

  • Yes! You will receive an email shortly after submission to confirm your payment and application has been received.

  • No. Any sensitive information included in your application will not be shared beyond the judges. Finalists will have the chance to approve facts that are shared ahead of any public announcements.
