On September 2, 2020 Women in Innovation partnered with design agency Wolff Olins and filmmaker Sephora Woldu to bring our community a virtual workshop focused on the classic film principles of the “origin story” and the “sequel” in order to inspire and develop actionable ideas for our futures.

As innovators, reinvention is in our blood. We constantly consider where we’ve been, to inform where we can go in the future. As professionals, the path forward in our career is not always clear. Given the diverse and rapidly changing field of innovation, it can often be overwhelming to know what path to take next, especially in these unprecedented times of change.  

In this interactive workshop, we studied cult classic films (like The Planet Of The Apes) and connected core principles to our own lives, exploring the origin stories we carry for ourselves, and then apply these stories to design our individual and collective futures. By the end of the evening, we each had spent time considering, defining and articulating our individual origin stories and sequels -- learning from our history and taking us into the future.
