Maggie is the Chief Innovation Officer for Save the Children. She lives in Nairobi, Kenya.
Before this, Maggie was based in Rwanda as the Country Director for Rwanda and Burundi for Save the Children for 5 years. In this role, as well as growing the portfolio from 6 to 15 million per annum, she set up Kumwe Hub, an innovative finance and impact investment hub. Kumwe Hub invests in local businesses that have a solution for children, families or youth in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Her passion is for locally-led, evidence driven, innovations that have a scalable solution in the fields of education, health, nutrition, protection, inclusion or climate.
Maggie speaks on several innovative finance panels on child-lens investing and is particularly interested in how BINGOs can pivot to be effectcive intermediaries in this space.
Before moving to Rwanda, Maggie worked in programming and operations for 22 years in various child-focussed organisations across Brazil, Sierra Leone, Tajikistan, Moldova, Kenya, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, India, Ecuador, Russia and Kyrgyzstan. She currently sits on two boards and is a qualified leadership coach.
In her spare time she likes cuddling her children and doing hot yoga. But not at the same time :)
Industry: Child focussed innovation
Why I’m excited to be part of WIN Awards: I am humbled to have been nominated for this award and would like to dedicate it to all of our invisible female innovators at Save the Children across our humanitarian and development work. Women who are taking risks, doing things differently, and innovating daily on behalf of children under the toughest of circumstances.
