Rising Star

Josie V. Williams is an interdisciplinary multimedia creative technologist whose work spans artificial intelligence, design, data ethics, and community-centered technology. She graduated from NYU in 2019 with a degree in Computer Science and a minor in Web Programming and Applications. As the only undergraduate researcher in a program typically composed of graduate and Ph.D. students, she studied bias in chronic kidney disease prediction models at NYU Langone Health under Professor Narges Razavian. Her research was presented at NeurIPS’s 2019 Fairness in Health ML workshop in Vancouver and the NYC Media Lab Summit.

Williams later served as Product Management Lead at Draft.Fish, managing four developers while gaining experience in full-stack development, application deployment, machine learning integration, and team leadership.

In 2020, she founded Algorithmic Equity, a nonprofit digital platform enabling New Yorkers to report, record, and respond to law enforcement behavior. That year, she joined NEW INC’s Creative Science track, became a Data Union board member, and was selected for the Afrotectopia Imagineer Fellowship, where she explored Black futures through design, history, philosophy, and culture.

Her research informed Ancestral Archives, a collection of chatbots modeled after historically significant people of color.

In 2024, Williams earned an MFA in Studio Art from Stony Brook University and participated in fellowships and residencies with Black Public Media, NYU ITP/IMA, and Stephanie Dinkins’s Future Histories Studio. She currently works at EY’s Intelligent Realities Lab as a Senior Visual Designer, driving AI-oriented solutions for the team.

Industry: Intersection of AI, equity, and community

Why I’m excited to be part of WIN Awards: I’m excited to be part of the Women in Innovation Awards because my work has always centered on using technology, design, and AI to create more equitable, imaginative, and community-centered futures. It’s also an opportunity to connect with other women shaping innovation across industries while contributing my own interdisciplinary perspective on technology, culture, and social impact.
