James Estrada is a reproductive health innovation leader and futures strategist. At Planned Parenthood Federation of America, he turns emerging patient needs and technologies into practical, equitable services while exploring what organizations must do to earn, and keep, people’s trust. He is dedicated to shaping digital tools that ensure private, emotionally-attuned, and supportive experiences that meet people where they are. His portfolio spans digital tools for abortion support, AI health information tools, and telehealth products that help community-based health workers reach rural patients. Recent work includes developing a partnership between Planned Parenthood and Aya Contigo, a chat tool which has helped 21k abortion seekers connect with trained companions who provide emotional support in English and Spanish. A close listener and curious researcher and strategist, James has explored the future of sex-ed, Black women’s experiences with perimenopause, Gen-Z dating and contraceptive use, and men’s perceptions of vasectomies. His current work focuses on preparing for future innovations in male contraception by prototyping the experience of a birth control consultation for men. He brought together the field’s leading funders, manufacturers and scientists with Planned Parenthood sex educators and providers, to customize an appointment that starts new conversations, and encourages men to take an active role in their sexual and reproductive health. At the core of his work at PPFA and beyond, James is committed to building new digital experiences and products that allow people to get the information and care they need with the fewest barriers to access, while keeping human connection and compassion at the center.
